Horrors of War Recalled-tn

North Walsham Far East Prisoner of War Association members, left to right, J. Riseborough, G. Payne, F. Thompson, I. Self, J. Forest, go back through the years with a perusal of a PoW camp register.

Horrors of war recalled

The horrors of war in the Far East were recalled at an exhibition at North Walsham Community Centre on Sunday and Monday.

The exhibition featuring hundreds of items of memorabilia from the war in Burma and Singapore is privately owned by Mr Vic Brown, of Mattishall. honorary vice-president of the Swaffham/Watton branch of FEPOW.

He has established that 3000 Norfolk families will have had connections with servicemen who saw service in the far East, most of them ending up as prisoners of war of the Japanese, working on the notorious “Death Railway.”
