Why

Why did our father's suffer in vain

For years in France shedding blood

And why does the memory of

Make them wonder what was their good

-o-

They left behind the one they held dear

To fight for the things that they thought were right

Hundreds went home again, thousands stayed

There the glorious dead remain

-o-

Was anything gained from taking their lives

Was the war to end all wars ever won

And what of the women, the heroes wives

Left alone to care for their sons

-o-

Much they, after watching their boys become men

Endure the heartaches and fears

At seeing their loved ones taken away

To fight after all these years

-o-

And in the years to come

When they are left all alone

Having lost husband and son

Will they have better thoughts

Such is every-thing; gone,

That's what my Country has done
