15th January 1942

Richardson goes onto say. Spent the morning washing clothes, giving them two boilings. Squared up the lorry and made a good job of it, putting a cover on top. 2130hrs suddenly moved off to hold a light-house some 6 mile west of Batu Pahat Road (Tg. Sialan near Kampung Minyak Beku). Lt. Proctor and some 16 British soldiers, and 4 Volunteers. We learned afterwards that the Navy had wirelessed Singapore regarding Japanese landing, but took no further action. We had that job.

Major Fearon references that 1 Platoon (British) was posted in a good position near the lighthouse end of the road leading from Batu Pahat and commanded a good view of the mouth of the river, the lighthouse and the sea.

This would suggest that Richardson (and Walter?) was one of the four Volunteers.
