A. GENERAL OPERATIONAL INFORMATI0N

    20 Jan - B24s bombed JESSELTON rail yards and 8 small ships along NORTH Coast.

    22 Jan - One Hospital Ship sighted 30 miles WEST of JESSELTON, course EASTerly.

    23 Jan - Patrol a/c destroyed 2 seatrucks, hit one; seatruck and one lugger (area not stated) 24 Jan - NO shippin^ sighted NW Coast ineluding KUDAT and JESSELTON.

    25 Jan - B24 bombed KUDAT Barracks.

    26 Jan - NO shipping sighted at KUDAT.

    27 Jan -

      (i) A/c destroyed 2 small craft TAWl  TAWI inflictlng heavy casualties on 75 enemy persons therein.

      (ii) B24 attacked KUDAT Barracks several luggers and barges DARVEL Bay.

    28 Jan - Allied a/c bombed JESSELTON rail yards.

    29 Jan - 2 B24s demolished buildings NW BORNEO (area no stated)

B. PRISONERS of WAR

The following information has been received from AIB. Source is being ascertained:-

  • BORNEO 26 Dec - About 100 PW escaped from the JAPS and now with the Dyaks in MALINIO (probably MALINAU 116°38'E 03°32'N - approx 65 miles EAST by NORTH of TARAKAN on the SESAJAP River) DUTCH BORNEO. Those can be contacted through native UJANGTIGA of TANAGIRO, MANDUL Is (probably MANDOEL, 117°40'E 03°40’N).
  • 15 miles EAST of LAHAD DATU at TRUBUK some escaped English PWs are reported hiding. Some native chiefs both British end Dutch BORNEO ready to organise resistance forces if given arms.

C. AIRFIELDS

  • A possibly serviceable strip has been sighted in position 118°08’E 05°25'N, 25 mils SOUTH of SANDAKAN. It is situated SOUTH of a short bend of the KINABATANGAN River, 6 miles SOUTH of BILIT.
