General Nature : At HW the beach is narrow and probably completely covered except for 50 yds of its length. There is a very wide foreshore of sand with some mud admixture.

Suitability for Landing : Not very favourable gradient. Exits unsuitable for anything but infantry.

Dimensions : Overall length - about 1,000 yds

Width at HW - 0 to 30 ft.

Width of foreshore - at least 100 yds; possibly more.

Gradient : Charted underwater gradient is about 1 : 200.

Approaches : The water is top shallow to allow near approach of ships and boats would ground well out. The nearest deep anchorage is nearly 2 mls SOUTH-EASTward, off the SOUTH end of BERHALA Island. There is no complete inshore survey.

Tides : Springs, rise 8 ft, deaps  5.75 ft.

Mature of Hinterland : The beach is backed by high thickly wooded country.

Exits : The only known exits are by two native paths. One of these runs SOUTHward for about 1.5 mls, joining the road to SANDAKAN (Route S 1); the other is reported to run along the hills about 400 yds inland, eventually joining the BULISIM SIM Road near SANDAKAN..

No 2 Beach - TANJONG PARAT

Location and General Nature : There are possible landing beaches on each side of Tg PARAT. The first, Beach 2 (a), lies just NORTH of the point and is the site of Kg BULI SIM SIM. The second, Beach 2 (b), is on the SOUTH side of the headland. Both are camposed of a mixture of sand and mud which is quite firm enough to walk on. Most of Beach 2 (a) is taken up by the native village. There are three fish drying piers on Beach 2 (b).

Suitability for Landing : Infantry could be landed on either beach and, probably, at the fish drying pier from boats at HW.

Dimensions : Each beach is about 300 yds.long. Their width. at HW is probably not more than 10/20 yds. Both have wide foreshore Beach (2) (a) being much the wider at LW.

Gradient ; Charted gradient to 400 yds off Beach 2 (a); 1: No close inshore soundings are given for Beach 2 (b), but the gradient is probably about 1:50 for the first 100 yds. from HW mark;  100 to 150 yds offshore the bottom shelves of: to depths of 3 fathoms and over.

Approaches : Beach 2 (a) is encumbered by a shallow bank extending 500 yds off shore and a smal coral reef extending fromi Tg PAPAT. There are two drying coral heads 150 yds off Beach 2 (b).

Tides : Springs, rise to 8 ft, neaps, rise of 5.75 ft.

Nature of Hinterland : There are steep cliffs 200-350 ft behind Beach 2 (a) and a precipitous, wooded hill 50 yds inland from Beach 2 (b). There are some palm trees between both beaches end the hills.
