Exits : Exit fron Beach 2 (a ) is by native track from Kg BULI SIm Sim around the cliffs, near Tg PAPAT to the road (see Route S 1). A road from SANDAKAN (see Route S 1) runs to a lunatic asylum near the EAST end of Beach 2 (b) and is accessible te infantry, though probably not fo MT.

No 3 Landing Place - SANDAKAN

Location : SANDAKAN stands n the NORTH side of the bav, near the entrance. It is s little more then .5 ml from Tg PAPAT end, including the native town and the saw-mills, extends about 1.5 ml WESTward.

Access : Ths town and wharf are approached directly from the harbour entrance between BERHALA Island and Tg PAPAT on the NE and Tg ARU on the SE. Ships of 30 ft (possibly more) draught may reach the wharf.

Nature : The waterfront along the main part of the town is seawalled. There is a Government wharf, four piers for small craft, three or more landing-stages, a slipway, and over a ml of sandy shore possible for landing. The government wharf is near the centre of the sea walled stretch. The Customs Office and godown are behind it., There is a landing stage at the WEST end of the wharf, another at the Customs and a third about 100 yds farther EAST. The slipway is near the EAST end of the town. Vessels of 450 tons can be hauled up there. There is a pier for small craft beside the slipway. A small moveable power-crane is reported on this pier.

At the saw mills WEST of the native village there are three wooden piers, used by craft in the tinber trade. These piers are equipped with rails (trolley-line) and may be used for landing men and light stores. There is reported to be a crane of 6 tons capacity; on one of these piers.

WESTward of the timber piers the shore is reported to be sandy Infantry landings might be made along it, but An unknown amount of reclamation work is reported here, and mangrove is reported in some places. Loila Road runs parallel to this shore at a distance of 30 to 150 yds, dividing,       1,400 yds beyond the WESTern pier, into SEBUGA and BOKHARA Roads.

About 1.25 mls SOUTH-WESTward the WESTern pier, at the end of BOKARA Road, there is a wide sand beach well suited for landing at HW. It is fronted bv the Allard Bank, with depths of 2 ft as for as 750 ydss from shore at LW. At HW however, 6 ft of water should be found within less than 100 yds of the beach. The sand is firm and there is an exit for MT by BOKARA Road and LEILA Road to SANDAKAN proper. The beach is about 400 yds long and 60 yds wide at HW.
