Resume of the Address given by the Camp Commandant on Oct. 7th 1942
In the last address I have stated that our Emperor’s boundless grace not only embodies the people of Nippon but also the people of the world; and to-day I wish to narrate my experience when I had the honour to participate in the Annual Military Practice which was held in 1929. On this occasion our Emperor wore only the similar clothing as the soldiers and endured the cold frosty days of October, and he had participated in the practice along with the soldiers without any sleep, which we were heartily impressed. Forgetting his weariness, his thoughts were always with the soldiers! I was there when he inquired of one of the soldiers, “Do you have time to cook your meals?”, and “is the meal tasty?” We, who were near him, having seen his fatherly attentiveness to this humble soldier, have felt that we would find happiness in dying for our Emperor.
From this incident probably you can visualize that it is His graciousness toward his people that motivates our people’s willingness to die for their Emperor.
The above is an exact copy of the address.
