No 4 Beach - T..JET0NG ĞRU
Location and General nature : On the island which forms the SE side of the entrance to SANDAKAN Harbour, a wide sand bank stretches from the WEST end of TRUSAN BUYON around Tg ARU. It is a firm sand beach, backed by casuarina trees, and has a very wide foreshore on which fishing stakes are set up at frequent intervals,
Suitability for Landings : The gradient off the NORTH section of the beaçh is unsuitable for landing at any state of the tide as very shallow water extends far out from the foreshore. The SOUTHern 1.50 mls is favourable for low water landing. The beach is broken 1,600 yds NE of TRUS.AN DUYON by the mouth of a small stream.
Dimensions : Length - about 2.75 mls. width above HW - about 30 yds. width of foreshore - probably 100 to 250 yds.
Gradient : Foreshore - about 1: 300.
Below LW line - North section, 1:50 to 1:100,
South section, about 1:15.
Appronches : Clear except for fishing stakes on foreshore.
Tides : HWS, rise of 8 ft, HWN rise of 5.75 ft.
Exits and Nature of Hinterland : The island is low alluvial land, thickly wooded. No exit from beach inland or from the island is known.
No 5 Beach - From 1 ml WEST of TRUSA DUYON to KINABATANGAN Rvr.
Location and general nature : From the entrance to SANDAKAN Harbour EASTward to the mouth of KINABATAGAN River, (KUALA KINABATAGAN or DEWHURST Bay), the coast is cut up by stream and tidal waterways into many islands of widely varying size. From. about a ml WEST of tho NORTH end of TRUSAN DUYON (DUYONG) these islands are fronted by sandv shores, broken by inlets, river mouths, and the estuary of the MAMUYON River (MUMLANG) into many small beaches. Landings could probably be made along most of this stretch, but movement inland would be very difficult.
